Eliot School

The Eliot School's goal is to inspire lifelong learning in craftsmanship and creativity for all. Class sizes are small and instructors are excellent. They offer a range of art classes for children ages 2 + up.


Tot Zone (Ages 2-3 with Adult)


Get messy exploring a variety of materials together. Supplies are provided in class.

Very Beginning Woodworking (Ages 4-5)


Children assemble projects in wood, using simple tools and techniques. Instructors emphasize safety in explorations, and the pleasure of making things and completing them to take home. New projects each section. Children will love to come back again and again as their skills and comfort increase. Parents are welcome to stay if they wish.

Beginning Sewing (Ages 6-8)


Let your child get started with simple sewing by hand and machine. Pillows and stuffed toys lead to more complex projects. The small class allows for individual attention, and instructors encourage kids to share their skills. There will be materials for the first class meeting. Then, with the instructor’s advice, you will assemble a sewing kit and fabric with your child. Send your child for more than one term to do new projects each time. Limit 8 Students.

Adventures in Art (Ages 6-8)


For kids who love art and want to have fun exploring a variety of approaches, mediums and techniques. You may have just started drawing, or already draw well and want to improve your skills. Through imagination and observation, explore composition, pattern, line, texture, scale, color, shading and contrast. Media may include watercolor, acrylic, charcoal, pencil, pastel and prints. Limit 8 Students.

Beginning Woodworking (Ages 6-8)


Get behind a saw, swing a hammer, build a treasure box, or a boat that actually floats. Children assemble projects in wood, learning to safely use the basic tools and techniques. Emphasizing creativity in our explorations, students will experience the pleasure of building things and completing them to take home.


New projects each section. Children will love to come back again and again as their skills and comfort increase. Parents are welcome to stay if they wish. Limit 8 students.

Comics I (Ages 9-12)


Make your own comics. Looking at anime and manga, learn how to tell stories in visual form. Create dynamic characters, stories and visuals. Limit 8 Students.

Comics II (Ages 9-12)


Build on the basics learned in Comics I. Develop your characters and stories, refine your visuals. Limit 8 Students.

Kids Sewing (Ages 9-12)


Learn how to use the sewing machine, cut patterns and sew. Develop your own personal sewing kit. Bags, pillows and simple clothing lead to more complex projects as you gain more experience. Sewing is practical and fun. Once you know how to do it you can make great things for yourself and for friends. Limit 8 students.

Kids Woodworking (Ages 10-14)


Students undertake larger and more complex projects, gaining appreciation for wood as a creative medium. New projects each section. Children will love to come back again and again as their skills and comfort increase. Limit 8 Students.

(Ages 9-12)


Children learn basic woodworking skills starting with simple projects, using hand tools. Continuing students undertake larger and more complex projects, gaining appreciation for wood as a creative medium. New projects each section. Children will love to come back again and again as their skills and comfort increase. Limit 8 Students.

Kids Drawing & Painting (Ages 9-12)


Concentrating on specific skills in drawing, painting and other media, improve your use of line, value, tone, color, proportion, depth, composition and more. Learn characteristics of a variety of materials and continue to develop your personal expression through individual and group critiques. Limit 8 students.

Tinkering & Inventing (Ages 10-14)


Have you ever wanted to invent something? Interested in electricity or technology. Sign up to create machines, construct simple circuits with found materials and kinetic sculptures in this course exploring building and motion. Limit 8 Students.
