“Take my money” was what I literally said after trying Donna’s Recipe.
I was looking for a natural shampoo for our family, because SheaMoisture always gave me rashes that lasted weeks. While I loved their Manuka Honey conditioner, their shampoos weren’t a great fit.
I came across Donna’s Recipe through an Amazon ad. The light pink bottle was super cute and I loved the brand's messaging.
Upon arrival the bottle is super small (only 8 ounces compared to Shea Moisture’s 13). But when the suds hit the shower it released the sweetest most mesmerizing scent. My curls also felt super soft after. It was one of those first experiences I will never forget.
Ironically a few years back SheaMoisture's Manuka Honey was the product I fell in love with and prayed it would never be discontinued. It has amazing slip, smells great, and made our curls pop.
I ended up canceling my SheaMoisture subscription, only because Donna has a shampoo and conditioner that I can use together.
In conclusion, I still love the SheaMoisture brand, the innovative products they create and the contributions they’ve made to hair care and culture. If I were talking to my younger self, I'd say Donna's Recipe is my current fave, but you wouldn’t be wasting your money if you tried both!!
Note: While I was introduced to Donna's Recipe when looking for a shampoo, I only regularly use the conditioner now. I'm not sure if I have hard water, but their shampoo made my hair feel super straw-like and hard to detangle. I'm currently using this product, which has silicones (an ingredient many in the natural hair community avoid). However, it currently does the best job at cleansing my hair and keeping it feeling amazing!
