Here we are on a commuter rail headed home from a full day at the Children’s Museum.
Our girls are 2 and 5 at this point, and are still obsessed with cuddling. So I welcome them both on my lap.
They’re so cozy, warm, and comfortable, that they knock out almost immediately, despite our train ride being less than 20 minutes.
Now here’s a deeper look at what you don’t see.
You don’t see our double stroller. A $700 investment purchased with the sole purpose of helping me transport our girls during midday naps like this one.
You also don’t see the truest labor of love - a 15 minute walk home, where I’m pushing 100 lbs up a steep hill with my arms extended, sweat dripping and flip flops clacking.
You don’t see my quiet prayers of me hoping my brother is home so that together we can lift the stroller in the house without disrupting the girls' sleep.
Lastly you don’t see my face. As strong and productive as I feel, I’m also physically and mentally exhausted. I’ve poured so much energy into mothering how I was mothered, which was deeply, passionately and patiently.
So I often photograph our girls, because they’re what I’m most proud of. Two brilliantly kind, and hilarious beings that I’m super grateful they chose me to be their mom. Nurturing them is my greatest gift to this world. And these moments reflect the dichotomy of working super hard while being super gentle.
