One of the amazing benefits of digital play is the ability to create whoever you want. As a hair enthusiast, the digital hair stylists behind ABCmouse continue to impress me. First you get to...
Choose your hair length…
Then pick a style...
I love the artistic detail in their fades and braids. I also love how full their side pony tail is.
I did notice on mobile devices you can choose any hairstyle. But on tablets, desktops and laptops -- you can't. Meaning, if you are a girl, you can choose some but not all shorter styles.
If this is happening to you, try clicking "boys" and "girls" in your settings.
In the past, you could also color your hair green, blue and other atypical colors. Luckily ABCmouse has a feedback section, where you can make suggestions. So we sent in ours.
If you too have suggestions, go to settings, then parent section, and scroll down to feedback.
Since ABCmouse regularly updates its content, I’m sure they will add many more styles and features in the future.
If you don't have ABCmouse - no worries. Game-based learning is most effective when it's child-led. We were introduced to ABCmouse by our daughter and have been using it for 4+ years. Please know, there are many other online platforms that allow creative expression through avatars. Take your time in finding the one that works best for you and your family.
Our older girls use Roblox, which is free and has a bunch of hairstyles. Check it out if you're interested.
