7 Board Books For Little Homeschoolers

Our six year old has been reading bed time stories to me, her sister, her dad, my mom -- basically anyone who will listen. We've tried reading programs, and found that we both prefer these child-sized books with beautiful illustrations. With simple and repetitive words, board books help our early reader read with confidence. Here are some of our faves.

Written by Alice Faye Duncan, this is the perfect bed time story full of cuddles.

Adapted by Cedella Marley, Bob Marley's daughter, this reggae classic was turned into a beautiful community working together.

Another Cedella Marley creation, based off of Bob's Marley's "Three Little Birds," this story follows a little boy and how he deals with life's mishaps.

Written by power couple Spike Lee and Tonya Lewis Lee, this story is about an active child getting into things. Kadir Nelson's amazing artwork makes the story come alive.

Another Kadir Nelson, Spike and Tonya Lewis Lee creation about siblings taking care of their dog. I cheated on this one, because I don't think it actually comes in a board book.

This is a beautiful story about a mother and father's' love for their daughter written by Bell Hooks.

From the smallest to the biggest, everyone in this family helps in preparing dinner. A great counting book that also shows teamwork.
