On Saturdays, Vanessa's mom goes to Yoga and she gets to spend the day baking bread with Papan (her grandpa). Vanessa learns about history, geography, culture and patience. Her grandpa also introduces her to the sounds, smells, rhythms and tastes woven into the warm loaf. Breads mentioned in the story include pan (Spanish bread), challah (Jewish bread), and baguette (French bread). The book is based on a true story and ends with Papan's special bread recipe.
